I’ve always been a brand junkie and a writer. Through a multitude of identity crises, I’ve gone from Metallica and Levi’s to Ralph Lauren and J.Crew. Now, I put on some rugged Carhartt’s when I want to fill the air with sawdust, and a pair of Lucky’s and a Robert Graham shirt when it’s time for Tito’s and a little harmless back porch pontificating in the evening.
I’m a modern cowboy, slinging Dewalt tools and Fender guitars for fun, Sharpie markers, Excel files, and a Macbook Pro when I need to pay for all my stuff. At least, that’s my current branded image. I wrangle down bull-headed clients and wild creatives to try and get them all into the same coral. I talk reason and logic. I break the big picture into the incremental frames that piece the story together. I draw up action plans for herding cats and one way or another, I get them where they’re supposed to go. I smile most of the time, curse a little, take a walk around the building when my head starts turning red, and come back to the table when it’s time to collaborate, make decisions and be accountable. I write everything from clever YouTube video scripts for vaginal dryness products to social media quizzes for finding which snack flavor matches your personality. I write website content, print and digital campaign copy, zippy and not so zippy headlines, scripts, and authentic brand promises for B2B and B2C clients. I even won a Gold Addy with a horror story haunted house event about a butcher who turned out-of-work meatpackers into a celebrated scrapple brand.
For the last 9 years, I’ve worked as the account, strategy, and copy leader for Hanlon Creative. As a small, growing agency, I’ve worn a lot of hats. My common sense and business acumen led me into a General Manager position but, writing and creating are where my heart is every day. I present to clients, conduct workshops, write proposals and work statements and most of the content that backs it all up. I created and wrote the content for our Blueprint for Successful Branding process and our Full Funnel Marketing tool.
I’m a strategic and tactical thinker with the ability to take complex challenges and put it all on paper in a way that makes sense. I’m smart. I work hard. I listen carefully. I’m low drama and ego and most people enjoy working with me. Whether that can be branded or not, that’s who I most like to be. I'm always looking for exciting writing assignments.
